Llobregat Delta Barcelona Day Tour OverviewOnly a very short drive from Barcelona airport is the birding hotspots of the Llobregat Delta & Garraf Natural Park.
Although almost surrounded by the airport and industrial buildings the Llobregat Delta (and its associated Reserve) holds a surprising variety of interesting wetland birds. It is a small reserve with excellent hides overlooking marshes, lagoons and meadows. A short visit here can be combined with an often profitable seawatch from the nearby shore. It has been declared a Special Protection Area as a designation under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds.
A little further to the southwest lies the Garraf Natural Park, a limestone massif with low open scrub, rocky slopes, dwarf fan palms and abandoned fields, as well as stunning views of the Mediterranean sea. The Garraf Massif has been declared a Protected Area by the Catalan Government.
Over 100 species can easily be seen in April/May, and about 60 to 70 the rest of the year. Over 300 different species have been recorded in these two locations.
