Mongolia Snow Leopard & Birding

At a glance
Mongolia, landlocked between Russia to the north and China to the south, is known as the “Land of the Eternal Blue Sky”, the ‘Land without Fences’, or the “Land above the Clouds”. This huge, pristine and remote wilderness area lies in the heart of Asia, and its empty, wild landscapes are almost otherworldly in our rushed, crowded world. With only three million inhabitants, the lands of Mongolia are still ruled by wild creatures rather than man.

Mongolia offers far more than nomadic farmers, snow-capped mountains, wildflower-filled landscapes and the Great Steppe grasslands you see in brochures. Fauna reported in the country consists of 448 species of birds, 139 mammal species, and many others. Although the country boasts no endemic bird species, a great number are unique to Mongolia and its immediate surroundings, with a range of habitats supporting some fantastic species.

This 20 day Nature Travel tour is designed to give you a great chance to view the many unique and wonderful birds and mammals of Mongolia, including iconic species such as Altai Snowcock, Oriental Plover, Black-billed Capercaillie, Pallas’s Sandgrouse, White-headed Duck, Relict Gull, Mongolian Lark, Siberian Ibex, Przewalski’s Wild Horse, Argali sheep, Pallas’s Cat and of course the elusive, enigmatic and incredible Snow Leopard. We can expect more than 40 species of mammals and well over 200 species of birds during the trip, including many localised and sough-after species.

Exploring the wilderness of the vast, untarnished and stunning Mongolian landscapes will be etched in your memory forever. In addition to the birds and wildlife, we will see many other fascinating species of smaller fauna and flora, and be inspired by the stunning natural beauty and incredibly rich nomadic culture and history of this awe-inspiring country. This is truly a bucket list, once-in-a-lifetime experience!
