Tour OverviewWhen you think of South Africa you probably think of smiling colourful people, beautiful landscapes, our brilliant sporting achievements, pristine beaches, top quality wine, ideal weather and Africa’s Big Five. However, not only does the country boasts almost 300 species of mammals, it is also blessed with incredible avian biodiversity, with a wealth of endemic and near-endemic species scattered all over the country.
This 8 day birding tour takes place in the northeast of the country, and includes several days in the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Also included are some lesser-known, but equally important birding attractions on the way to Kruger. Most of the tour takes place in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa; it means “the place of the rising sun” and the climate and topography vary from cool highveld grasslands through the escarpment to the sub-tropical lowveld plains of the Kruger National Park. This diversity leads to equally fantastic birds, and we should see almost 400 species during the trip, including many endemic and special species. Let’s go birding!
